Violin, Cello, Viola Lessons
Lessons on one of the bowed string instruments will cover much of the basics, bowing technique, reading music, and tuning.

First time violin or cello lessons?
If you are looking to buy or rent a violin or cello for the first time, here are a few things to look for:
- A violin or cello will usually come with a bow, which is used to produce sound when moved across the strings.
- You may need to purchase rosin separately, this is a hardened sap-like material that is applied to the bow in order to create a stronger bond between the string and the bow. It essentially makes it easier for the bow to make the string resonate.
- If you (or your child) find that the violin is uncomfortable to hold underneath the chin, you may want to purchase a shoulder rest.
- All string instruments are produced in various sizes, 4/4 is a standard, full sized instrument, smaller sizes are made for younger players whose hands may not be able to stretch to play on a full sized instrument. Other common smaller sizes are: 7/8, 3/4, and 1/2.
Aside from your instrument, bow, and rosin, you should always bring a notebook and pencil with you to lessons to write down ideas and practice goals. Your teacher may also recommend a method or etude book to work out of.
