About Rob

In it's simplest form, the guitar can be described as nothing more than a box attached to a few strings. Yet somehow, this instrument has the capability to move audiences to tears. To me, that's true magic. Music is a wonderful form of self expression, and I aim to help my students find their unique voice on the instruments they study.

I have been playing for over 15 years and have studied guitar with Tom Giacabetti, Joseph Mayes, Brian Betz, and Kevin Hanson. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Jazz and Classical Performance from Rowan University, and have Continuing Education credits from the University of the Arts in Songwriting. Whatever type of music you are interested in learning, I am excited in helping you on your journey.

What is a musical obstacle that you remember overcoming? How did you overcome it?
I was working on a very difficult phrase in a piece of classical music, and my teacher in college had told me to play it 12 times in a row with no mistakes. I was allowed to take it at any speed as long as the notes and rhythms were correct. But any time I got it wrong, I had to start over. Long story short, it took me about an hour and a half to finally get it correct, and all it took was me finally allowing myself to play it far slower than I thought I had to. It was a great lesson in taking my time from the beginning with learning something new, rather than trying to rush through it, as often times rushing can actually cause us to take far longer in learning a new skill.
What advice could you give to someone who has just begun learning music?
First and foremost, have fun with it, and don't rush yourself! Learning music is a process, and making mistakes along the way will happen. When we embrace our mistakes, we can learn from them, which tends to be really rewarding!
What other instruments, aside from the ones you teach, have you played before?
Recently I started teaching myself drums, but mostly because it's fun to be a beginner at an instrument again!
What are some of your favorite teaching moments?
Seeing my students genuinely excited about their instruments and asking questions. The more you ask about music, the more interest you'll probably start to have for it!
What are some musical goals you hope to achieve in the future?
I've played quite a few shows at various venues and hope to continue that, but I'd really love to lock down a weekly gig.
When did you start playing music, what brought you to it?
I began playing music at 11 years old. I'm not entirely sure what led me to music but all I know is that I had been begging my parents for music lessons since I was about 4.
What style(s) of music do you like to play the most? Why?
I really try not to limit myself by playing one particular style of music, but I think my favorites to play would be Neo-Soul. It tends to have some interesting stuff going on within the chords but isn't overly complex and still allows for freedom of expression in improv/soloing.
