About Sarah

I’m a classically trained vocalist and music educator with a master’s degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College. I’ve performed in many settings, including choral performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Princeton Festival, as well as opera and musical theater.

I have over seven years of teaching experience and love working with singers of all ages, styles and abilities. In voice lessons, my goal is to help students develop healthy technique that supports the voice for the long term, while making singing feel freer, more expressive and more enjoyable.

I also teach beginning piano and especially enjoy introducing students to their first instrument. My piano lessons build strong musical foundations in a fun, encouraging environment, with an emphasis on perseverance, thoughtful practice, creativity and a real love of music.

How I got started

I started playing music in 6th grade band, because my mom signed me up for it.

What I love to play

Opera, jazz and musical theater. The voice can express the whole range of human emotion, and these styles are where I feel that the most.

My advice for beginners

Some parts of learning music involve lots of repetition, but you can always find ways to challenge yourself and make it fun. Good practice habits make the best musicians.

A favorite teaching moment

My favorite moments are when a student surprises themself by doing something they had no idea they could do.

An obstacle I overcame

I had terrible rhythm, so I made it a game, tapping out rhythms on my knees during my commute. It became a habit, and the habit eventually became the confidence to sight-read any rhythm I needed to.
